Sunflower Books and Gifts is a social enterprise of The Sunflower Society, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity {thesunflowersociety.org}. 100% of net proceeds from the bookstore will help fund our women’s community center - where women living with cancer and other life-threatening and chronic diseases find solace, support, and the social services they need to thrive!

What is a Social Enterprise?
Social enterprise broadly encompasses ventures of nonprofits and for-profit businesses that can yield both financial and social returns. One example of social enterprise is an earned income venture. By selling goods or services, so a traditional 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization can diversify its funding base while providing positive impact in the community. The concept of social enterprise also applies to for-profit ventures with a strong social bottom line.

100% of the bookstores net proceeds will provide the critical funds needed to operate The Sunflower Society Women’s Community Center, where women living with cancer, and other life-threatening and chronic diseases receive support, advocacy, educational programs, health resources and human services.

Secondly, indie bookstores create a unique browsing experience that cannot be replicated by online platforms. The physical act of perusing bookshelves, flipping through pages, and reading blurbs fosters a tangible connection between readers and books.
As a nonprofit community hub, we connect readers, non-readers, and authors, through events, conversations, and activities. This coming together through books fosters literacy, curiosity, and critical thinking.

While nurturing minds and strengthening community spirit, Sunflower Books and Gifts will have a warm, inviting vibe and a book selection full of quirks and surprises.
However, we’re not just in business to sell books. We want our little indie nonprofit bookstore to become a neighborhood destination. Our goal is to create a community of readers, writers, and lifelong learners, and our plan to host monthly events will help us achieve this goal.
A relaxed refuge for readers, local bibliophiles, wanderers of literary realms, and seekers of fantastical events - there will always be something exciting happening at Sunflower Books and Gifts where book lovers can discover their next great read, enjoy a hot cup of tea, and shop for original boutique items made by local artisans.
